Day in the Life | Clinical Fellowship

One of my favorite posts to read as well as to write are "day in the life" posts. A peak into what a typical day looks like during a certain stage of life. I love looking back at these posts and seeing how different life was. As they say the days are long, but the years are short. Here's what a typical weekday looks like for me as I'm completing my Clinical Fellowship.
My alarm goes off at 6:00am and no matter how early I go to bed the night before it's always hard for me to wake up. No matter how hard I try I am just not a morning person. I typically roll out of bed around 6:30am get ready, run around packing my bags, and hit the road by 7:00am.

Week in the Life | Second Semester Edition

The past five months have flown by at lightening speed. You blink and almost half a year has gone by! So what has happened since March? I'm a year older and a semester closer to graduation. Thomas had a successful emergency back surgery and has made the Dean's List each semester. We attended three weddings and countless other fun events. Life is good, really good. I'm going to do my best to become more active here, in posting and commenting, and I hope you stay along for the ride :)

Week in the Life | Grad School First Semester Edition

I've been in grad school for two+ months now and somehow they have been the quickest yet longest two months of my life. I have a feeling that's how I'm going to feel about the entire program. I don't know if I have posted this yet or not, but the Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program at Grand Valley State is an one year accelerated program. That means that it's only four semesters long, from January 2015 to April 2016 for my cohort. The first three semesters are 16 credits each and the final semester is a full time internship. This type of program has both pros and cons. As you can imagine it is extremely intense, but you also get out into the field quicker and therefore can start making money quicker. It is a great fit for me since I took a year off after finishing my undergrad and then didn't get into any grad schools the first time around. There are still days that I can't believe that I'm actually in grad school and that in thirteen months I'll be an SLP.

Now that I've given some background I figure I'd write out the typical week for me during this first semester (and through out the rest of the program), similar to my DITL posts. Since everyday is different I figured a weekly view would work better.

DITL | Nanny Edition

My day to day life has changed a lot since I became a full-time nanny last month. I'm working 45+ hours {with a 30min commute each way}, volunteering with my cousins soccer team three days a week, taking a workout class at the local community college, and in crack down mode preparing for the GRE. I've honestly never been this busy- not even in college!

As I've mentioned before day in my life posts are one of my favorite to read and to write. I love looking back and seeing how my days have changed with big life changes. So here we go- how I spend my weekdays!

6:20am- alarm goes off
I'm not a fan of snooze, so I'm usually up as soon as the alarm goes off. Then I lay in bed for roughly 10 minutes checking my social media accounts {email, Twitter, & Instagram}.

6:30am- time to get ready
Get dressed, brush my teeth, throw my hair up, eat a quick breakfast, ect. Once that's done I pack my bags and then spend a couple minutes playing with Duke before leaving for the day.

7:00am- on the road
I have a half hour commute and thankfully traffic isn't too bad in the morning.

7:30am- get to work
As soon as I get there I make the girls breakfast, they finish getting ready, and then if we have time they watch a TV show {usually Clone Wars} and I read a few blogs on my phone.

8:45am- drop the older girls off at school
Then it's just N and I for the rest of the day. We play games, ride bikes, run errands, go the library, eat lunch, have quiet time {which is when I do an hour of GRE studying! It's amazing being able to do it while at work}, and watch a movie.

3:45pm- pick the girls up
Now the day is crazy and hectic again! I make them snack, they do their homework, and then we play until one of their parents get home.

5:30pm- time for me to go home
Some days it's earlier, but I'm typically always off by 5:30. Then I start the 35-40 minute drive back to "my area".

6:10pm- workout class/soccer practice/taking Thomas dinner
Now this varies depending on which day of the week it is. Monday I take Thomas dinner and then have my workout class 7-8, Tues & Thurs I go to soccer practice from 6-7, Wednesday T & I have a dinner date in between his classes, and Friday we have date night.

7:45ish pm- finally home
And this is when I wish I could collapse. I usually eat dinner or if I've already eaten I have a snack and unwind for a couple of minutes. Thankfully I usually don't have to cook because my in-laws save us food from their dinner or Thomas cooks.

8:00pm- take Duke for a walk
It's extremely important to us that Duke goes for at least one walk everyday. On the days that I can't take him my MIL does {IE: Mondays}. We usually walk 20-30 minutes around the neighborhood.

8:30pm- shower time
I'd look a lot more presentable everyday if I could take a shower in the morning, but let's be honest... I love sleeping more. So during the week I take my showers at night.

9:00pm- time to unwind/family time
This is the time when I blog, read, watch TV, or just chat with Thomas. I usually do some GRE vocabulary flashcards before bed as well.

10:30pm- lights out
By now I'm definitely exhausted and just craaaaash! I will say that it is nice that I never have trouble falling asleep!

And that is how I spend my days Monday through Friday. Crazy busy which makes the days fly by! Definitely a huge change from college and the daycare.

What does your day-to-day life look like?

DITL | Daycare Edition

Ever since the days of Livejournal I've loved documenting a day in my life at any given time. I especially like doing "themed" ones- here I did a college edition and today I'm going to do a Daycare edition. It definitely wasn't an exciting day, but it shows a routine day at this time in my life.

7:45 am: Shower and get ready.
8:15am: Pack my work bag and snuggle my pooch!
8:25am: Give the pup a treat, leave for work & pick up breakfast on the way.
9:00-3:00: Good ole work!
3:10pm: Run a few errands after work
4:00pm: Change into comfy clothes as soon as I get home & then enjoy the warm weather with the pup in the backyard.
Blogger fail: I forgot to take a picture of the hubs getting home & of dinner.
8:00pm: The hubs and I take the furchild for a walk!
9:00pm: My computer has been a real big pain in the booty lately...
9:30pm- Watched a little bit of the Patriots preseason game and then SVU before falling asleep (I was still exhausted from the concert)!
And there's a glimpse into my everyday boring life ;)

DITL | WMU Edition

I finally completed a DITL (Day in the Life)! I've been attempting to do one for years and I just could never got through the entire day. I can't say that my days are all that exciting, but they are definitely busy. I know that when I graduate (in FOURTEEN days!) I'll miss being this busy. And I think this will be really fun to look back on.

Thursday April 11, 2013

Woke up at 8am and I usually lay in bed for a few minutes catching up on Twitter and Instagram. Then I hop in the shower while T takes Duke outside and feeds him. Once out of the shower I do my morning routine ;)
Once I'm dressed I put on my makeup and do my hair. (I really need to buy a full length mirror for our next place).
The demon puppy is tied up because he was misbehaving and now it's T's turn to get ready while I pack my bag. Since we're so behind on laundry I throw in a load and then Duke goes in his crate waiting for a treat before we leave for class.
It's pouring outside which is no fun. Class is.. class haha Then I get to work- I work as a Student Receptionist in one of the departments on campus. Yummy lunch! I'm going to miss that chili more than anything.
Once I finish my work for the day I do a little Pretty Little Liars reading. I fly through those books when I have time to read. Walking over to the speech clinic in my Hunter Wellies and rain coat. Therapy room all set up! I also have a meeting after therapy with my group and supervisor.
While waiting for T to pick me up I send my Grandparents a email because they're currently in London! T and I have started tanning to get our bodies ready for the Caribbean sun. Once home I read a couple of blog posts while snacking on Pepper Rings. Left over Ribs from Applebee's for dinner- I know it doesn't look very appetizing, but I promise it was!
Catch up on some DVR while T plays a computer game. Do another load of laundry. Cuddle on the couch with Duke while he sucks on the blanket... and read a little more Pretty Little Liars.
I met two of my friends at Buffalo Wild Wings for .50 wings and drinks. Put on my PJs. Get ready for bed. Check Twitter/Instagram one last time and curl up next to my hubby <3
