Graduation Weekend

As I mentioned in my last post; I graduated with my Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Thomas graduated with his Bachelors degree in Exercise Science on April 30th. The whole weekend was such a whirlwind, but one I never want to forget!

Our families arrived in town Friday afternoon. Once everyone was settled we met at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in the Amway Grand Hotel for a delicious dinner. The food was impeccable and every one of us loved our meals. Thomas and I shared the crab cake appetizer and a caesar salad, then we each got our own filets. Our servers even brought out a celebratory desert to share!

Once dinner was finished we headed to GVSU for my cording ceremony. The ceremony was where we received our graduation cords signifying our major, speech-language pathology, and a final chance for us to mingle with faculty and one another.
PS- I figured out how to properly wear the hood before the commencement ceremony lol

After the ceremony wrapped up a group of us headed to Cygnus 27, a bar at the top of the Amway Grand Hotel, for celebratory drinks. It was a really unique bar with great views of the city.
Our commencement ceremony was bright and early the next morning at Van Andel Arena in Downtown Grand Rapids. It's been 3 years since my undergrad graduation ceremony and man I forgot how long they are- it was over 3 hours! And that is why Thomas opted out of walking during his ceremony..
Once I the ceremony was over everyone met at our house for Slows BBQ catering. Before my family headed back home we headed back downtown to take a few pictures. Unfortunately it was freezing  AND windy out so the pictures aren't the best :(
We ended the weekend with one more night out, spending as much time as possible with my favorite Texan. We're not sure when we'll see each other again, but I know it'll be someday!

The weekend was go, go, go but we crammed in as much as we could. Time with our families who came into town to celebrate with us and time with my fellow speechies before we all scatter across the country. The past fifteen months flew by and even three weeks later I can't believe it's actually over! What a crazy ride it has been. Onto the next adventure..

  1. congratulations Corie! Also... I've heard so many fantastic things about that steakhouse. My dad took my grandma there for her birthday a few years ago, but I've yet to make it over there. One of these days... lol
